Narrow Lane - Cumberland Valley Township - 2019-2020 Low Volume Road Project
Near the intersection with Evitts Creek Road, Narrow Lane passes over an unnamed tributary to Evitts Creek very near a private residence. The creek then flows through the front yard of the residence, under a driveway, and through a small pasture before joining Evitts Creek about 900 feet downstream from the crossing. The existing crossing structure comprised 2 corrugated metal pipes which caused problems with brushy debris and branches lodging during high flows. This clogging often led to water backing up and flowing over the top of the road, causing erosion and damage to the structure. Additionally, the 2 pipes were set with a drop of a foot or more at the outlet during lower flows which was a barrier to fish passage. The new structure is a plate arch with an invert (bottom) and integrated headwalls and endwalls and with a width that allows for dry passage through the structure when stage is below bankfull.
